Green Electricity Tariff (GET) 2025: Helping Businesses Meet ESG and Carbon Goals
The Green Electricity Tariff (GET) 2025 program is designed to support Malaysian businesses and organizations in achieving net-zero carbon emissions and fulfilling ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) goals by sourcing renewable electricity through the national grid.
This initiative by TNBX under the Energy Commission allows businesses to offset their Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by subscribing to green electricity bundled with Malaysia Renewable Energy Certificates (mREC)—a verified and traceable environmental attribute.
mREC Redemption
GET subscribers will receive mREC as proof of renewable energy usage. These can now be transferred to tenants or customers under GET Greenpath, enabling landlords, data centres, and public distribution licensees to share green benefits.
Future-Proof Against Carbon Tax
With Malaysia’s carbon tax planned for 2026, participating in GET now can help reduce future tax burdens, especially for exporters to regions like the EU under the CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism).
SolaRIS Support
Proceeds from GET subscriptions also help fund the Solar for Rakyat Incentive Scheme (SolaRIS), contributing to national solar adoption—turning GET participation into a CSR effort.
Easy Application
Apply via myTNB portal, with the ability to backdate subscriptions and align mREC redemption with your sustainability reporting timelines.
