Speaking on Fengshui versus the Retail Industry at the panel session, Master Jane Hor’s focus was on three principal points of view, namely right timing (Heaven), right place (Earth) and right people (Human).

The fengshui consultant described “right timing” as the transition in fengshui or geomancy from the present period eight to period nine, which is five years away.

A characteristic of period nine is the fire element or Li Kua, encompassing digital eCommerce or technology that has been reshaping consumer behaviour and retailing.

There is also the element of culture, which together with technology, if incorporated into shopping malls can bring about exciting shopping.

“Right place” works on the need to analyse the shop’s location while “right people” relates to target customers, which are the young people in period eight and women in their 30s to 40s in period nine.

Hor also spoke of four different types of premises to attract wealth and population as well as the direction to face when choosing an office or shop.

They are Up Water Down Mountain, Up Mountain Down Water for theme parks, Down Water on mountain and Down Water Down Mountain.

The terms may sound peculiar and unfamiliar to the uninitiated but fengshui is a science that does appeal to the many who seek best probable outcomes in their businesses from her consultancy.

When asked question during the panel discussion on what are some specific real life examples in shopping centres that failed due to bad fengshui, she responded that bad fengshui could be anything from the direction of the entrance, traffic flow, direction of the drain, signboard positioning as to whether the shop is at the top or bottom of the slope.
